Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The Class 4 mat is rated up to 36,000V, making it the correct choice for 33kV substations. It provides a meaningful safety margin above the operating voltage.

Class 3 is rated for up to 26,500V (suitable for 22kV systems). Class 4 is rated for up to 36,000V (suitable for 33kV systems). If your system operates above 26.5kV, you must use a Class 4 mat.

A standard 10m x 1m roll of 5mm thick Class 4 insulating mat weighs approximately 72 kg, making it the heaviest in the range.

Minor punctures may be repairable using patch kits designed for electrical insulating materials, as per manufacturer guidance. However, significant tears, burns or cuts require immediate replacement. Never use a damaged Class 4 mat in a live 33kV environment.

Look for IEC 61111:2009 certification, a test certificate from an accredited laboratory, and standard markings on every meter of the mat. Additional quality certifications such as ISO 9001, RoHS compliance, and REACH compliance indicate a higher quality product.
